This post specifically focuses on learners who ask for help when they are learning something new.
Imagine a scenario where a young learner is learning addition for the first time. They are completing addition questions, but they ask for help. They are told to try the questions in front of them, but they ask for help again, and say that they cannot complete the addition questions. How do you approach this situation?
Asking for Help
It is normal for any learner to ask for help when they are dealing with unfamiliar topics. It is normal for any learner to receive help when needed, because it is impossible to know and understand everything without help. Even though it is normal for a learner to ask for help, and receive it, but one needs to ask if there is such thing as too much help. We also need to explore whether or not every learner is entitled to help every time they ask for it.
It is likely that any learner will seek assistance when they need help. It is not good to deny them from assistance if they are struggling because a lack of help can lead to exhaustion. In other words, too little help can discourage one from wanting to learn.
Overdoing the Help
While it is okay to ask for help, and while it is okay to receive help when needed, there are times where one can get and ask for too much help. If a learner is learning something new and they consistently receive help, then this will create a situation where a learner thinks that they are entitled to help. If one wants to learn something new, then they have to be willing to figure some things out without help.
Conclusion
A young learner is learning addition for the first time. They ask for help once, and they receive it. They ask for help the second time, and they are told to try the addition questions on their own. In this case, a young individual is able to learn addition because they not only received some guidance, but they were able to learn on their own because they had the desire to do so. While it is okay to ask for help, one has to have the desire to strive for knowledge on their own, and that is how they learn.
